Alumni

Alumni reunion attended by over 250.

On a beautiful but hot Sunday on August 29, over 250 alumni and guests attended the centennial mass & open house.  The oldest graduate from the class of 1935 mingled with our newest graduates from 2009.  Former clergy and teachers were also in attendance.  Pictures and memories were scattered around the tables.  Here are a few of the memories shared that day:

  • "We had so much fun playing on the playground - freezing in place whe the bell rang; lining up & marching into class.  I also remember the wonderful teachers and the beauty of 1st Communion and Confirm!ation."

Only I was so small that the desk started to tip.  I tried with all my might to keep the desk down, but she got up & said 'I was just too small.' But I still adored her."

    Karen LeSassier 1973

  • "Trojans Track-n-Field.  Mr. Brumana, Ms. Heard & Mr. Gillespie were my favorite memories.  My favorite teachers. Supercalifragisticexpialidocious, I think I've still got it!"

    Ursula Walton 1990

  • "I will always remember my students competitiveness, eagerness & kindness.  I was happy coming to work everyday.!"

    Paul Brumana Sr. Teacher 1982-1989

  • "Playing baseball against the boys on this very playground!

    Margy Bohlke 1959

  • "My mother tried to register me at St. Mary's and was told by Sr. Superior to take me to St. Johns so I was a week late.  So guess who they picked on!"

    Don Minkoff attended 9/1934-6/1935

  • "I remember when the boys and girls were separated in 8th grade classes!"

Memories

"During my era, 1958-1966, St. John's was a family, regardless of age or grade, and it was fun to return home and to be part of the family again on Aug. 29, 2009."R.J. Deakins 1966

"I was so grateful for Marty Alatorre for contacting me about the reunion.  I had so much fun.  The memories that were shared will always remain with me.  For a moment I was that student all over again."
Sandra Tallarida Brior 1967

"May processions; girls in their pretty dresses with flower wreaths in their hair, boys in their Sunday best, & the beautiful hymns we sang as the procession was led through the school - to me was the most beautiful time.

Smell of new  - four square balls, pee chee folders, lunch pails, crisp uniforms still brings back warm memories. Great teachers, values, teaching, and friends."  Cristina Torres Daza 1969
